Terms of Service
Last updated: July 20, 2026
1Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using the Service, including running a free scan, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. Your use of the Service is your acceptance, and that acceptance is renewed each time you use it.
If you use HowFindable on behalf of a company or other organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms on its behalf, and in that case "you" means that organisation.
If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, your only option is to stop using the Service.
2What HowFindable is
HowFindable scans a website you point us to and gives it two scores: one for classic search (SEO, how well Google can find and rank it) and one for AI answer engines (AEO, how well systems like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Grok can discover and cite it). The scan and the scores are always free.
If you choose to pay, we also generate ready-to-use files and content for your site, such as robots.txt, llms.txt, structured data (Schema / JSON-LD), corrected meta tags and written content.
The scores, findings and recommendations are informational. They are our best automated assessment of public signals at a single moment in time, not a promise about how Google, any AI system or any other third party will actually treat your site.
3Who can use it
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement to use the Service.
You are responsible for everything that happens under your use of the Service, including the URLs you submit and any files or content you take from us and publish.
4Your responsibilities when you scan
You may only scan sites you own or are authorised to analyse. When you submit a URL, you confirm you have the right to have that site fetched and analysed, and that doing so does not break any law or any third party's terms.
You agree not to: use the Service for anything unlawful; submit URLs pointing to illegal, harmful or infringing content; attempt to overload, disrupt, reverse engineer, scrape or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure; resell or rebrand the Service as your own; or use automated means to abuse the free scan.
You are responsible for any file or content you take from the Service and publish on your own site, including checking that it works for your setup before you publish it.
5How your scan is analysed by AI
To produce your scores and recommendations, HowFindable sends the public content of the site you submit to Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI models, through its secure API. This is how we give you an expert-level analysis in seconds, something a normal chat tool cannot do reliably.
What we send: the URL you enter and the public content we fetch from it, such as the page's HTML, its robots.txt, its sitemap.xml and its llms.txt. We only fetch what is publicly available at that address.
How we send it: server-side, over an encrypted connection, using our own API key. The key is never exposed to your browser, and your data is never shown to other users.
Why we send it: solely to evaluate your SEO and AEO signals and to generate your report and, if you pay, your fixes.
Under Anthropic's API terms, content sent through the API is not used to train their models. We never send more than we need, and we never sell your data or share it for advertising. Our Privacy Policy explains this in full.
6Paid fixes and content
Paid features, when available, are a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The current price is shown on the Service, and if you buy, you pay once, the files are yours, and we do not bill you again.
When you buy, payments are handled by our payment provider (Stripe). We receive confirmation of the transaction but never see or store your full card details.
When you pay, we grant you a licence to use the files and content we generate for you on your own website. They are yours to use for that purpose.
Because these are digital goods that are generated and delivered to you immediately, all sales are final and payments are non-refundable once the files have been delivered, except where a refund is required by applicable law. If something is genuinely broken on our side, contact us and we will make it right.
If you are an EU or UK consumer, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of digital content. Because we generate and deliver your files immediately, you will be asked at checkout to expressly request immediate delivery and to acknowledge that you lose this right to withdraw once delivery has begun. Where the law still requires a refund, we honour it.
7Success stories and content you give us
Publishing a success story is optional. If you opt in, you give us permission to publish a short case study about your results on the HowFindable blog and to link to your site. You choose to turn it on, and you can ask us to take it down at any time.
If you add a quote or other words, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use them on our blog and marketing while your story is live. You confirm the words are yours to share.
8Intellectual property
The Service, including the HowFindable name, design, text, code and scoring system, belongs to us and is protected by law. These Terms do not give you any right to copy, resell or build a competing service from it.
Files and content we generate specifically for your paid order are licensed to you as described above. Everything else stays ours.
HowFindable is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Google, Anthropic, OpenAI, Microsoft, Perplexity, xAI or any other company we name. All third-party product names, logos and trademarks are the property of their respective owners, and we refer to them only to describe what the Service does. If you own a trademark and believe we have used it incorrectly, email hello@howfindable.com and we will address it.
9No guaranteed results
SEO and AEO depend on third parties we do not control, including Google, Anthropic, OpenAI, Microsoft, Perplexity and others, and on factors such as your domain's authority, age and content. We do not and cannot guarantee any particular ranking, traffic, score, citation by any AI system, or business outcome.
Estimated scores shown before you apply changes are projections, not commitments. Your real result depends on how the changes are applied and on decisions those third parties make.
10Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the scores and recommendations are complete or accurate. You use the Service and rely on its output at your own risk.
11Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, HowFindable and anyone working with us will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, traffic, rankings or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) 50 US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless HowFindable from any claims, damages, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right, including scanning a site you were not authorised to scan.
13Availability, changes and termination
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We may also suspend or end your access if you misuse the Service or break these Terms. The free scan is offered as a convenience and may have usage limits.
14Third-party sites and services
The Service relies on and may link to third parties, such as our hosting, storage, AI and payment providers. We are not responsible for their content, policies or actions, and your use of them is governed by their own terms.
15Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the Federal Arbitration Act governs the arbitration agreement in the next section. For any claim not subject to arbitration (such as a qualifying small-claims matter, a request for injunctive relief, or where arbitration does not apply), you and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of the State of California, United States, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings there instead.
16Dispute resolution and arbitration
Please read this section carefully. It changes how disputes between you and us are resolved: it requires individual arbitration and waives class actions and jury trials. It does not apply where the mandatory law of your country of residence prohibits it.
Talk to us first. Most issues are settled quickly. Before starting arbitration, you agree to contact us at hello@howfindable.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve the matter informally.
Binding individual arbitration. If we cannot resolve it, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be settled by final and binding individual arbitration rather than in court, except that either party may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court. The arbitration will be administered by a recognised arbitration provider such as the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or JAMS under its applicable rules, and may be conducted in writing, by phone or online where the rules allow.
Class action waiver. You and HowFindable agree to bring claims against each other only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or member of any class, collective, consolidated or representative action. You and HowFindable also waive any right to a jury trial.
Exception. Either party may still ask a court for injunctive or equitable relief to protect its intellectual property or to stop misuse of the Service.
Your right to opt out. You can reject this arbitration agreement by emailing hello@howfindable.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms and stating that you opt out. If you opt out, only the Governing law and disputes section above applies, and the rest of these Terms are unaffected.
17Copyright complaints
We respect intellectual property and expect you to do the same. The only content users contribute is an optional success story or quote, which we review before publishing, but if you believe anything on the Service infringes your copyright, tell us and we will act.
How to notify us. Email hello@howfindable.com with "Copyright" in the subject and include: your contact details; a description of the work you say is infringed; the URL where the material appears on the Service; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them; and your physical or electronic signature.
What we do. We will review a complete notice, and where appropriate we will remove or disable access to the material and, where we can, let the person who posted it know.
If your content was removed. If something you contributed was removed after a complaint and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, email hello@howfindable.com with "Copyright" in the subject, identify the material, and explain why you believe it was removed in error, with a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your explanation is accurate, and your physical or electronic signature. We will review it and may restore the material where appropriate.
Repeat infringers. We may suspend or end access for anyone who repeatedly infringes copyright.
18Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version shown with the most recent "Last updated" date is the one that applies. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to highlight them. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated version.
